Hustled, A Podcast About Gig Economy Workers, Wins 'Outstanding Documentary' Award At Canadian Podcast Awards

Toronto, Canada – June 21, 2021 – PODCAMP TORONTO’s second annual CANADIAN PODCAST AWARDS announced the winners for its 2021 edition today. The awards are celebrating outstanding podcasts produced by Canadian podcasters, editors, and producers.

We are proud to announce that HUSTLED: When Your Boss is an App, our 2020 podcast series in collaboration with Toronto Star, has won the award for two categories: Outstanding Production for a Series and Outstanding Business Series.

Apps have made ride-sharing, room-renting and ordering a meal easier than ever. The technology relies on a burgeoning workforce to support what’s become known as the gig economy. But what does it mean when your boss is an app? In HUSTLED, Host Sara Mojtehedzadeh of the Toronto Star follows a group of food couriers who are challenging the powerful business model—in a fight that could redefine the future of work.

“Nominees like HUSTLED: When Your Boss is an App exemplify the wealth of talent we have here in Canada and reflect the unique attitudes, opinions, ideas, values, and creativity of Canadians,” said John Leschinski, Chair of Podcamp Toronto. “We had over 500 entries this year from across the country – it’s really an incredible achievement to be selected by your peers in the Canadian podcasting community.”

The podcast was also nominated in People’s Choice and Outstanding Documentary award.

Hustled was jointly produced by The Toronto Star and Antica Productions. It was written and produced by Sara Mojtehedzadeh and Antica producer Laura Regehr. Kathleen Goldhar is the story editor and executive producer at Antica. And Stuart Coxe is president of Antica Productions. Janet Hurley is senior editor at The Toronto Star. Hustled is made possible thanks to the ongoing support of the Atkinson Foundation.
